LED Lights And Bulbs is your #1 resource for everything related to LED lighting on the web. We cover every type of indoor and outdoor LED light imaginable, from LED grow lights and flood lights to rope lights and LED bulbs.
LED stands for ‘light emitting diode’, and LED lighting has a lot of advantages over traditional bulbs. LED lights are more efficient and environmentally friendly, last a lot longer, and are safer and more portable than most other types of lighting.
LED Light Bulbs
LED light bulbs run at 80% efficiency (compared to 20% for standard bulbs), and can produce a much purer light. LED light bulbs can also be purchased in a huge range of different colors and sizes, making them extremely versatile and suitable for everything from reading to growing plants.
LED Grow Lights
LED grow lights are one of the most popular uses of LED lighting, and help your plants reach their full potential by providing them with an optimised light source all year round. They are typically used indoors and are ideal for creating larger, healthier plants.
Our recommended choice of lighting this month is Portable LED Lights! A very versatile choice and a great alternative to fixed bulbs, particularly for outbuildings. Read our article to find out more.
What are LED street lights?
LED street lights are a relatively new concept. As the bulbs are more energy efficient and brighter, LED street lights can illuminate a bigger area. There is more choice of color, including bright white lights which are easier on the eye.
LED street lights last much longer than conventional lighting and waste far less energy through heat as the bulbs don’t warm up as much as traditional lights. LED street lights are considered to be at the end of their lifespan when they only emit 30% of the light they originally did.
As the LED bulbs last for such a long period of time, bulbs are replaced infrequently. LED street lights are also much less attractive to insects than standard street lighting, making them more environmentally friendly in that respect too.
LED street light structure
There are various different designs of LED street lighting with various different types of bulbs and situations used. High power one watt LEDs are amongst the most popular, but a few companies use low power LEDs with numerous low power bulbs arranged together in place of a single high power LED. LED street light shapes depend on several factors, including the LED positioning, the heat sink used, and the overall aesthetic design preference.
The majority of LED street lights have an LED panel lens designed to cast the light in a rectangular pattern. This is a huge advantage of LED street lighting compared to typical street lights that usually have a reflector on the back side of a high-pressure sodium lamp. In this case much of the luminance of the light is lost and produces light pollution in the air and surrounding environment as well as often causing glare for drivers.
Where to buy LED street lights
LED street lighting is not easy to source unless you go straight to the manufacturer or have contacts within the industry as it usually sourced by councils and local governments. Miniature and smaller LED street lights designed for homes are somewhat easier to track down and can be purchased from specialist stores, websites and sometimes garden centres.
